Sneak peek at TNT: www.tnt.tv/dramavision/?cid=62381After watching the promo for this episode, I'm intrigued that Jane seems to only let her guard down around Maura. In the first episode she admitted to being scared and in this episode she's obviously shaken by the return of Hoyt. I would think she would only do this around Maura and no one else because she feels safe around Maura, being that she's a woman. If she were to admit her feelings around the guys - with the exception of Korsak because I feel like she might with him - she'd feel they'd view her as weak. Anyone care to discuss?

I can usually make it through the week just fine without being all "OMG OMG OMG WHEN'S MONDAY GOING TO BE HERE?!?!?!?!?!?!" but then I go and watch promos and my composure goes straight to hell. Jane mentioned in the first episode what, I think, the reason is she has to maintain a stoic facade in front of her coworkers--she said that 20 years ago, women weren't even allowed to work in the Homicide unit. In many ways, she's a trailblazer. Not only does she feel she has to work twice as hard--and be twice as good at her job--to gain half the recognition and respect, she feels as though if she appears weak in anyway, or is too traditionally feminine, it will just give people (the ones who don't think women should work Homicide) an excuse to say "oh look at that, she's scared, obviously women can't handle this job." Obviously no individual's behavior can be representative of, or generalized to, an entire cohort, but the people who continue to cling to sexist, misogynist ideas don't tend to accept that. That being said, I don't think Korsak or Frost would ever think things like that, and I don't think Jane thinks they would. But, they're not women working in a male-dominated field. Even if they wouldn't judge women as a whole based on Jane's behavior, they also won't understand the pressures like Maura would. Yes, I'm a feminist.

I completely agree with everything you said.
Also, I think the fact that Jane is able to open up to Maura like that is a testament to how strong their friendship already is. Especially considering how new it is. Jane doesn't seem like the type to open up to just anyone, man or woman. So the fact that she can talk to Maura and tell her that she's scared about Hoyt is fantastic. And it makes me sad that there's only a couple of episodes left because I really want to continue seeing where their friendship goes.

I think that the fact that Maura has Jane wrapped around her little finger is a testament to how in love they are strong their friendship is.
After watching the promo though, I'm almost a little nervous about the episode. It seems like to get everything in, and do it well, it would have to go longer than 42-43 minutes to avoid feeling rushed.

Yeah, I know what you mean. It would be great if they could make it a two-part episode or something, but they are evil and won't do that. Maybe we'll come back next season and they'll be married even better friends.

I don't know about you guys, but everytime I see the promo for this episode, my stomach churns. I don't know why, but it does.
And let's hope they get married become better friends.

Gosh. I miss all the discussions. Lol. I don't know...I don't think anything bad's going to happen w/ Jane and Hoyt. But that actor, whoever he is, REALLY creeps me out. He does a FANTASTIC job of being a creeper. Lol. But I think she would let her guard down w/ Maura more..probably because of all the stuff they've been through and how great of friends they are. Maura and Jane remind me of me and my best friend. :') I don't know why really.

When she was showing her how to use the gun...SO ADORABLE!
And then that creep had to take those pics...>.<
I have a feeling that the creep is gonna suggest that there is something between them. I just have this feeling...
EDIT: Okay I am almost 100% sure that they're taking pics of Maura because he views Jane and Maura as a couple (which they so are) because he always goes after couples. *dies from my genius*

Um, wow. Holy effing crap. Can I just call attention to how unbelievably hot Maura was in this episode? When she was showing her how to use the gun...SO ADORABLE! And then that creep had to take those pics...>.< I have a feeling that the creep is gonna suggest that there is something between them. I just have this feeling... EDIT: Okay I am almost 100% sure that they're taking pics of Maura because he views Jane and Maura as a couple (which they so are) because he always goes after couples. *dies from my genius* That's because they ARE a couple, silly.I think that's actually a really astute point. And though I usually shy away from the man/woman, masculine/feminine, butch/femme dichotomy in same-sex relationships, I'm curious to know if Hoyt perceives them in such a dichotomy, and if so, which he thinks is which. In the first episode, it's said that he ties up the husband, makes him watch while he rapes his wife, and then kills them both. He likes to toy with Jane, and clearly wants to break her psychologically--he probably sees her as the "husband" in the relationship. ...God that's dark.

Alrighty so I watched the episode twice and took notes the second time. Because there was a lot of stuff I wanted to talk about. And I’m a nerd. So first off, Jane’s nightmare freaked me out. And I don’t really get freaked out all that often. And then we got to see Angie Harmon in her underwear. I was quite happy with that. I am convinced that the only reason we have yet to see Sasha Alexander in her underwear is because she was pregnant during filming. Here’s hoping we get to see it next season I love it when Maura speaks Google. It’s extremely hot. And so is that blue dress she was in. Did anyone else think that Jane was flirting with the waitress? Or was that just me? (Btw, I was really excited when I saw Scottie Thompson’s (the waitress) name in the credits. Simply because she and Sasha were both on NCIS. They weren’t on at the same time, but still) Jane teaching Maura how to hold a gun was sooo adorable! And I loved Maura’s ‘Do I look badass?’… umm she absolutely did! I love hot women with guns. It’s super sexy. That maybe part of why I loved Sasha so much on NCIS… anyhoo. Oh! And I wonder if they knew that they hadn’t actually cocked before Jane got up to go to bed. If Maura had tried to shoot, nothing would have happened. I absolutely adored Maura taking charge when Frost and Korsak were arguing. Once again… HOT! I would not want to mess with her. I felt that every scene with Jane and Agent Dean was awkward. Maybe because she is in love with Maura they don’t have any chemistry. Their “flirting” just didn’t work for me. The ENTIRE scene between Maura and Hoyt was fantastic! He is sooo creepy and she just stayed calm and didn’t let him get to her. I loved it! And I love how her focus kind of broke and her face fell just a little bit when he said they were alike. I personally think that is amazing acting on Sasha’s part I really liked how Jane mirrored Korsak’s actions from a few moments earlier, when she was talking to Maura and telling her that she and Hoyt weren’t the same. And omg, Maura talking about her childhood was so sad. Not gonna lie, when Frankie said he and the waitress were going to come over for dinner, I knew that she was the one working with Hoyt. I also totally saw the whole ‘Oh, Frankie went out for beers (except he’s really tied up in the bedroom)’ thing coming too. Maybe I’ve just seen too many crime dramas… Is it wrong that I like the fact that Jane is reminded of Hoyt when she thinks of Dean? I feel like that should be a bad thing, but I can only see the positive. He can’t get between our girls All in all, I really loved this episode. I think it might be one of my favorites so far. And, I’m sorry for writing so much. I just really had a lot to say tonight. Lol. Plot bunnies are running rampant through my head and, as I only work a 5 hour shift tomorrow, hopefully I’ll be able to do something with them.

Oh my gosh, I wanted to punch my TV screen. It's bad enough he keeps torturing Jane but now he's going to go after Maura. Noo But I can see what you guys are saying by how he perceives them as a couple and how close of friends they are and would try to rip them apart. I'm serious...whoever plays that guy, he fricking scares me. lol. I don't know if I can wait til next week. Aaah!

The main thing I felt was missing from that scene--the same thing that's missing from every teach-someone-to-shoot-a-gun scene--was Jane telling Maura to keep her finger off the trigger unless she was absolutely ready for the gun to go off. Perhaps not with the gun they were using, but with plenty of others, you can still shoot without cocking the hammer.
I'm actually running through a short fic plot in my head where Jane takes Maura to a shooting range. "I ran a damn marathon for you, Maura, the least you could do is come learn how to shoot a gun properly!"
"I don't see how those two events are related."
"GAH!"
I thought this was a really great scene for a slightly subtle reason. It shows very clearly where Maura's priorities are. Jane's needs are so much more important to her than anyone's penis Frost and Korsak's argument. I'm really enjoying how they're portraying Jane and Maura each as willing to do anything for the other.
I really liked the scene where Jane's watching the video with Maura, particularly the part where Maura realizes that the part with Hoyt saying they were alike is playing, and she tries to turn it off quickly, as though she doesn't want the others to hear it. It's like she knows they think she's a little weird (albeit in an endearing way, for Jane) but she doesn't want them to consider that her eccentricity might be because she's similar to a sociopathic murderer.

I didn't even think about the trigger thing. And with my dad's gun, you have to cock it after loading the magazine in order to load the chamber otherwise it won't shoot. I don't know about other guns. I have no clue what kind his is though. And that sounds like an adorable fic! I got that impression too. Like Maura was embarrassed that Hoyt said that and even more embarrassed that she agreed with him.

And I loved how Jane not-so-subtly shooed Dean out of the room--she knew Maura wouldn't talk to her if anyone else was around. Also, I started rewatching the episode at work today. When Jane and Maura are talking about how long the cold dead plot point had been missing (right before the Hot!Maura-holding-a-gun bit) Maura says that he was frozen for two years, and then thawed, and then Jane says that means Hoyt killed him six months after coming after her the second time. Was the second time what we saw in the pilot? Are we supposed to think that 1.08 takes place a year and a half after 1.01? I'm confused. Help?

From the time I saw the first preview, I was confused by the timeline. Not only how much time has passed since the first episode, but also the fact that if what we saw in the pilot was the second time Hoyt went after Jane, then wouldn't he have been sent straight back to prison? And in this episode we are led to believe that Hoyt killed the victim himself '6 months after going after her the second time'. So how would this be possible if he's in prison? I know that doesn't help you at all. It just adds to the confusion, I'm sure. Lol.
